Admission Requirements & Application

In general, to be considered for admission you must have achieved the level of secondary education required to apply for university studies in your home province, state or country. In addition, our business programs may require certain prerequisite courses and/or good grades in specific subjects. For example, students applying to the John Molson School of Business (JMSB) must have a good background in mathematics.

Applicants from Quebec Cegeps

The general requirement for admission to Concordia University is a Diplôme d’études collégiales (DEC), either general (pre-university) or professional (career).

Cegep applicants from the pre-university stream must achieve a minimum overall CRC (R-Score) of 26 and a minimum CRC of 25 in mathematics to be admitted to the BComm. An overall CRC of 25.5 with a mathematics CRC of 24.5 is required for admissions to the BAdmin. With the exception of students in a 3-year professional DEC, students must have completed at least one of the below mathematics prerequisite courses to be considered.

Completion of the following Cegep courses is recommended:

Course Minimum Grade of Exemption*
Mathematics 201–103 or 201–NYA (Calculus I)
70%
Mathematics 201–105 or 201–NYC (Linear Algebra) 70%
Introduction to Macroeconomics** 75%
Introduction to Microeconomics** 75%
Computer Literacy**

*Accepted applicants receive exemptions from equivalent courses at Concordia if they have achieved the minimum grades specified for each course listed above. Those who do not receive exemptions for any of the five profile courses must complete equivalent prerequisite courses at Concordia University. These prerequisite courses will count for credits toward their degree requirements and will not prolong their studies in any way.

**Cegep Computer Literacy and Economics courses will be evaluated for equivalency to Concordia’s course: DESC 200 — Fundamentals of Information Technology, ECON 201 – Microeconomics and ECON 203 - Macroeconomics

Three-Year Commerce DEC

Students pursuing a three-year DEC in a business-related field will be considered for admission without the specific math profile courses, provided they have achieved an overall CRC of 26 (BComm) or 25.5 (BAdmin) and good grades (min. 70%) in the business math course(s) required for their programs. These students must also demonstrate strong academic performance in their business courses. We also recommend that students applying from a three-year DEC submit their high school grades such that we may holistically assess their applications.

Please note that these requirements are subject to change.

Applicants from Other Canadian Provinces

Applicants should have completed Grade 12 and met the requirements for graduation in their home province or territory. A minimum average of 80% overall and in Grade 12 mathematics is required for the BComm. The requirements for the BAdmin are an overall average of 75%, with 75% in mathematics.

All applicants are required to have completed Grade 12 English (12 U for Ontario). Grade 12 French will be accepted for students who have graduated from a French school. Applicants from Ontario must have completed six appropriate Grade 12 U or M courses, including a mathematics course, either 12U Advanced Functions or 12U Calculus and Vectors.

Please note that these requirements are subject to change.

Applicants from the United States

Students applying from accredited American High Schools can be admitted to the BComm program if they have achieved an overall GPA of 3.00 with a “B” average (3.00) in mathematics. Students may be admitted to the BAdmin provided they maintain a 2.80 overall GPA and a “B-” average (2.80) in mathematics. Please note that a GED (General Education Diploma) is not accepted in lieu of a high school diploma.

Please note that these requirements are subject to change.

Applicants from Other Countries

International candidates who have completed university admission level studies will be considered, provided that they have achieved better-than-average grades. In most cases, a specific minimum overall standard on certificates is required. Additional information may be obtained by visiting connect2.concordia.ca.

Please note that these requirements are subject to change.

Mature-Entry Applicants

Admission as a mature student may be granted to Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents, subject to the following conditions:
  • Applicants must have reached the age of 21 by August 1, December 1 or April 1 of a given year, to enter the University in the following September, January or May respectively.
  • Although not meeting the normal academic requirements for admission (Quebec Diplôme d'études collégiales or the equivalent), applicants must demonstrate that they have the potential to successfully undertake undergraduate courses.
  • Applicants must have been out of school (i.e. not engaged in full-time study) for at least 24 months since reaching the age of 18. Applicants who have been out of school for only 12 months are also admissible, provided that they have had no unfavourable academic record in the previous 24 months.
  • It is recommended that mature-entry applicants include a resume and a letter of intent with their applications.
  • Mature entrants must complete 18 credits of work in addition to the 90 credits required for the BComm and BAdmin or 30 credits required for the certificate. Those 18 credits must include the following:
    • 6 credits in MATH 208, 209
    • 6 credits in ECON 201, 203
    • 3 credits in DESC 200
    • 3 additional elective* credits
*These elective credits must be selected from outside the JMSB.
  • Applicants lacking the prerequisites may be considered provided they have 5 years of relevant business work experience.

Please note that these requirements are subject to change.

Transferring to the John Molson School of Business from other universities or colleges

It is possible to transfer to John Molson School of Business (JMSB) from another university or post-secondary institution. Applicants transferring from other accredited universities, junior colleges, and community colleges outside Quebec will be considered for an appropriate level of placement within the undergraduate program and may apply for either the Fall, Winter, or Summer semesters.

The number of credits awarded to transfer applicants depends on the character, quality and quantity of the work completed and will be assessed upon application.

Students wishing to apply to the JMSB BComm program from another university must have a minimum overall GPA of 3.00 (on a 4.3 scale), as well as a strong background in Math (a "B" average). Students wishing to apply to the BAdmin program must have a minimum overall GPA of 2.80 (on a 4.3 scale) with a “B-” average in Math. The two Math courses required are Calculus 1 and Linear Algebra. Micro and Macro Economics and a computer literacy course are also required. If a student is missing one or two of these courses, they may be completed within our program, provided the student’s overall average is strong.

Please note that these requirements are subject to change.

Transfers from Other Concordia Programs

Internal Degree transfers to the JMSB are considered for the Fall term only. The application deadline is May 1 of each year. Applications for Degree Transfer can be obtained from the Birks Student Service Centre (LB-185) and there is a $40 application fee.

Students seeking transfer into BComm programs must have completed at least 12 credits at Concordia and achieved a minimum cumulative GPA (that is an overall GPA based on all courses completed at Concordia University) of 2.70 or higher. A GPA of 2.60 is required for the BAdmin program.

Applicants MUST have completed the following five profile courses (or their equivalents) prior to admission:
  • MATH 208 (Linear Algebra)
  • MATH 209 (Calculus I)
  • ECON 201 (Microeconomics)
  • ECON 203 (Macroeconomics)
  • DESC 200 (Computer Literacy)
Additionally, a minimum average of B- is required in MATH 208 and MATH 209 if completed at the university level. Students who received exemptions for MATH 208 and/or MATH 209 (from Cegep) should have achieved at least 70% in each of these courses. If not, the student must repeat the course and achieve the minimum grade required prior to consideration for admission to the program.
