Living accommodations

Montreal is a sophisticated and culturally diverse city. You can hear almost any language being spoken on our streets, attend concerts and cultural events of every kind, and enjoy just about any type of cuisine. We actually have more restaurants per capita than anywhere else in North America, including NYC!

Montreal is also a very safe and affordable place to live. It offers a variety of residential areas, ranging from the trendy Plateau area and local Student Ghetto, to the tree-lined streets of Notre-Dame-de-Grace (NDG) and the family-oriented neighbourhood Verdun.

One of the best ways to find living accommodations in Montreal is by contacting the Concordia University Housing Bank. This service, offered by the CSU (Concordia Student Union), helps students find roommates/apartments/rooms for rent, and more. We also offer On-Campus Housing in Residence at our beautiful Loyola campus in NDG.

You may also wish to contact the International Student's Office (ISO) at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it to request information about the ISO Housing Support Group that meets at the beginning of each term to help international students find housing in and around the city.

New International Student Orientation

All ISEP/VIFP students must attend a mandatory "ISO Orientation Session for Exchange and Visiting Students" at the beginning of the term. These sessions start several weeks before classes begin and cover such topics as immigration, registration, housing and health insurance.

Orientation schedules are available on the International Students Office website.

Arriving at Concordia University

The first thing that visiting international students must do upon arrival at Concordia University is bring all of their immigration documents to the International Student Office located at H-653, Henry F. Hall Building, 1455 de Maisonneuve Blvd. West, on the 6th floor. No appointment is necessary.

Next, they should come to the JMSB Undergraduate Office to meet the International Coordinator. The JMSB Undergraduate Programs Office staff always looks forward to meeting and welcoming our student guests. During the two weeks leading up to the beginning of the term and during the first two weeks of classes, no appointment is necessary to meet with the International Coordinator. After that time, students must book an appointment by calling our receptionist at 514-848-2424, ext.2721.

To find out more about the collective international student health insurance policy or eligibility to opt out (only those eligible for coverage from the RAMQ–Quebec Health Insurance Medicare Card/Carte Soleil may opt out), students should attend a Health Insurance Session offered at the beginning of the term at the International Students Office (ISO H-653), or refer to the International Student Handbook.
