Management

What is Management?

Managing in the 21st century will require leaders who understand how to motivate people, work with diverse others, and how to create wealth in a socially and ecologically sustainable manner. Organizations need leaders who are comfortable with innovative business models that provide long term prosperity for stakeholders in accordance with organizations’ economic, ecological, technological and social environments.  The Management Department takes a broad view of the discipline, studying it from multiple perspectives, mainly organizational behaviour, strategy, human resource management, entrepreneurship, and business law.  These subject matter are thought by engaging students in embodied and experiential learning, by dissecting key successes and failures, and through intense oral and written reflections.

Why study Management at Concordia?

This Major provides students with an integrated perspective on the overall operation of an organization. It is geared toward developing aptitudes that are more strategic in nature, while nurturing problem-solving and the implementation of strategic and tactical solutions. Students may focus either on large and internationally-oriented businesses or upon small enterprises. The conceptual emphasis is complemented by an applied emphasis on organizational analysis and consulting. We equip students with the fundamentals needed to be effective change agents, either as entrepreneurs, managers or consultants. Students will also develop skills for managing sustainably and competitively in a changing world and to manage in economically, ethically, environmentally, and socially responsible ways.
