He wrote a working paper after passing comprehensive examine in August 2008. It is an international study focusing on self-dealing regulation, ownership wedge and corporate valuation. This paper won Best Paper Award in Accounting at 2009 HEC Student Conference on Business Research. Now, it is published in Corporate Governance: An International Review. Mingzhi passed thesis proposal defense in December 2009 and defended his thesis in March 2011. His doctoral thesis investigates the effect of financial reporting quality (proxied by conservatism and internal controls) on the cost of corporate bond financing in the U.S. setting, a topic at the intersection of accounting and finance. His thesis comprises two empirical essays. One investigates the effect of accounting conservatism and internal control effectiveness on the yield spread of new corporate bond issues.
