Train Community Entrepreneurs
Starting Your Own Business: Entrepreneur Training Program
MBA CSI enters into alliances with community organizations to identify and select persons with the necessary entrepreneurial spirit and a potentially viable business idea and trains them to develop their business plan, source the necessary financing and successfully set up and manage their business. We make the resources of the business school available to people and communities that otherwise would not be afforded the opportunity. We provide selected entrepreneurs with over156 hrs of training over thirteen weeks, followed by ongoing technical support and business counseling by appointment. This program is another option in the fight against poverty and reducing the unemployment and welfare rolls in particular areas and aims to develop enterprises, which offer meaningful employment and which create added value for the economy. Our overall objectives are to:
- Create jobs
- Break the pattern of dependency on social assistance and reduce unemployment and welfare rolls
- Improve access to start-up capital and other services and resources currently being offered by public and private agencies in the area
- Improve entrepreneurs’ ability to access and compete fairly and effectively in markets external to their own community
- Increase possibilities to succeed and reduce failures through training, technical support and business and life skills counseling
Current Programs
Little Burgundy Employment Centre
We formed an alliance with the Little Burgundy Employment Centre (LBEC) of the Tyndale St. George Community Centre to train entrepreneurs primarily in the community of Little Burgundy and the Southwest region of Montreal. Training for the first group of entrepreneurs ran from September 26, 2009 to January 23, 2010. Ten of the thirteen entrepreneurs who began the program completed it; and nine of those have completed their business plan and registered businesses. We are assisting them with fine tuning their business plans, sourcing the necessary financing and setting up and managing their business. Training for a second group of entrepreneurs started on March 23, 2010 and will run through July 17, 2010.For more information on the program at LBEC, please contact Cynthia Homan at: Tel: (514) 989-2155; email: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
