Call for Papers - FERC 2012

Behavior Issues and Micro-processes in Family Enterprises

8th annual Family Enterprise Research Conference (FERC)
4th Georges Doriot Conference

11-13 May 2012
Montreal, Canada

Call for Papers

As distinct sub-systems family and business must co-exist in family enterprises, sometimes peacefully but at other times less so. The differences between the family and business systems are fundamental in nature and both can influence behaviors and processes within the family business. However, the behavioral issues and micro-processes in these two systems and their interaction in the context of the family business are not well understood. For example, it is well known that the intermingling of family and business can make leadership succession a traumatic and costly event in family businesses but much less is known about the potential remedies for the phenomena. Considering the prevalence of family business and the potential high costs of failed business ventures for stakeholders and the wider community there is a pressing need to identify factors that contribute to the longevity and successful management of family-owned businesses. These issues of particular importance in family business have been studied extensively in general organizational behavior within topics such as conflict management and organizational commitment. However, there remain many untapped and important opportunities to explore linkages between family, family firms, and organizational behavior issues. While the organizing committee of the eighth annual FERC welcomes submissions on a wide range family business issues the committee is especially interested in papers on the themes outlined above.

Submission Guidelines

Please submit extended abstracts (one to five pages) for presentation consideration at FERC. However, authors interested in being considered for an invitation to the Theories of Family Enterprise (ToFE) conference linked to the Entrepreneurship Theory & Practice Special Issue need to submit a full length manuscript and indicate their interest in the ToFE conference on the cover page. All submissions will be blind reviewed by members of the FERC 2012 Review Board. Scholarly poster is the medium of presentation of competitive papers.
