Network of International Business Schools (NIBS) 2010

JMSB at Network of International Business Schools (NIBS)
March 7-13, 2010 – Congratulations to Benoit Chevrier, Erica Frankel, Lauren Markofsky and Mitchell Robitaille for their outstanding performance and hard work at the competition of the Network of International Business Schools (NIBS), hosted by The International Business Academy in Kolding, Denmark. This year’s NIBS competition was an outstanding experience for both students and coaches alike.

NIBS is a group of 91 business schools from around the world which believes that the internationalization of business and the globalization of the economy are essential elements in the evolution of managerial practices. Due to the large volume of schools participating, teams competing must submit a written case analysis to qualify for the competition. JMSB was one of ten finalists selected to attend the competition in Kolding, Denmark.

The four JMSB students competed in four round-robin cases and showcased the talent of our business school. JMSB ending up in the middle of the pack in the final competition round, while Bishop’s University and the University of Memorial finished in first and second position, respectively. In defeat, the JMSB team showed maturity and poise beyond their years, by remaining focused and not allowing the scoring to affect their morale. They presented realistic solutions to complex problems and defended their position well. Several competing coaches, including the host coach, commented on their surprise that the quality of our team’s work was not recognized by the judges.

The purpose of case competitions is to showcase the talent business students, to exchange ideas between educators, and to develop a cultural and international understanding and sensitivity.  Coaches and teams alike were gracious and showcased a spirit of fairness in this international competition that brought together North American, European and Scandinavian competitors. Overall, this year’s competition was an outstanding success and congratulations go to the JMSB participants for their victory in the NIBS Olympics, an event that included trivia contests and a maze event.

Thanks to head coach Mark Haber, lead coach Tim Field, coaches Jonathan Kuczer and Peter Vogopoulos, as well as Matthew Parker-Jones and Kalil Diaz (2007 NIBS participants) for their time in preparing the team.

A special thanks to two JMSB former graduates (also 2007 NIBS competitors), Cleo Roch and Michael Smouha, who also helped coach, who came to support the team, highlighting the true spirit of JMSB and our case competition program.
