Representing Concordia University’s John Molson School of Business (JMSB), Scott Carr, Victoriya Gouchtchina and Thao Nguyen finished in third place overall at the inaugural Global Family Enterprise Case Competition hosted by the University of Vermont. Additionally, Carr was named Best Presenter in JMSB’s division.
The first competition in the world to focus specifically on family business, the event was held between January 9 and 12. Teams received a pre-arrival case a week before the start of the competition, the recommendations for which were presented immediately after the opening lunch. JMSB faced a unique obstacle in that its team members were busy competing at the Jeux du Commerce when the case arrived.
Despite this disadvantage, the team got off on the right foot, winning their first case. The two subsequent days had teams competing head-to-head, with division winners moving on to the finals.
The final results were:
- ESADE Business School, Ramon Llull University
- Laurier School of Business & Economics, Wilfred Laurier University
- John Molson School of Business, Concordia University
- Jonkoping International Business School, Jonkoping University
The John Molson Competition Committee would like to thank JMSB management professors, Alexandra Dawson and Ron Abraira for their outstanding work in preparing the team.
The Committee would also like to thank Head Coach and Advisor to the Competition Program, Mark Haber for his commitment and contribution to the program.
The Committee would also like to thank its exclusive sponsor Pfizer Canada for their support of the competition program.
