Bill Taylor Retires

Dr. William Taylor, Professor, Department of Management is retiring

The department of Management bid farewell to one of its most beloved professors on December 1, 2011. After 28 years at Concordia, Dr. William (Bill) Taylor is retiring. Over fifty colleagues and friends gathered at a reception to celebrate his time at the university.

JMSB’s Interim Dean Alan Hochstein discussed the many administrative roles played by Dr. Taylor since he joined Concordia’s Faculty of Commerce and Administration in 1983, “Bill has worn a number of hats during his time here and I would like to thank him personally for everything he has done for JMSB.”

Amongst other positions held by Dr. Taylor over the years, he acted as director of the Aviation MBA and Executive MBA (EMBA) programs. His profound involvement in the affairs of JMSB led him to touch the lives of many individuals, many of whom were on hand to express their feelings and share their stories.

Current EMBA Director Frank Crooks spoke affectionately of Dr. Taylor’s compassion for his colleagues, while Professor Michael Carney reminisced about the days when the Faculty of Commerce and Administration was located in a small two-story building at Concordia’s Loyola Campus. He mentioned that it was thanks to the efforts of pioneers such as Dr. Taylor that JMSB has become what it is today. Professor Carney also noted that the very first article ever published in the Canadian Journal of Administrative Sciences was authored by Dr. Taylor.

Professor Bryan Barbieri, a colleague and close friend of Dr. Taylor’s, read messages from members of of the Taylor family, each emphasizing their pride in his accomplishments as a professor at Concordia.

While those who spoke described a great variety of ways in which Dr. Taylor affected them, on this they agreed. He will be missed.
