JMSB Reaches Semi-Finals at 2010 SIFE National Competition

June 4, 2010 − The Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team of Concordia University, run by Concordia’s Entrepreneurship and Management Association (CEMA), was amongst the 54 teams competing in the Advancing Canadian Entrepreneurship (ACE) 2010 SIFE National Competition in Calgary, this May. The team, outfitted with cowboy hats, was proud to come home with a top 10 finish for a second consecutive year. Ryerson University was crowned National Champions at the event.

The Calgary presentation team included John Molson School of Business students: Gabriel Obadia, Philip Barrar, Allysha Carr, Jonathan O'Connell, Andrea Roncal, Karin McCullock and Adam Haroun.

While the team did not advance to the final round, they delivered a solid performance, which advanced them to the semi-final round of competition.

The SIFE competition covers six educational topics: Market Economics, Success Skills, Entrepreneurship, Financial Literacy, Environmental Sustainability, and Business Ethics. Teams are judged on how the projects and events they plan and execute help others within their communities.

This past March, the team also placed second in the TD Entrepreneurship Challenge and second in the Scotia Bank Sustainability Challenge at the Regional round of competition in Toronto. These results mark the debut of their placement in the top 3!

Faculty Advisor, Ronald Abraira, was also awarded the “Rookie Faculty Advisor of the Year” award and was inducted into the “John Dobson Fellowship” for his outstanding contribution and dedication to Concordia’s SIFE team.

The team is already looking forward to next year, and is confident to achieve a top 5 national finish in 2011.
