Sustainable Internship Program

Are you a JMSB Student? Are you interested in gaining experience in an internship? Wanted to expand your understanding of Sustainable Business?

The David O’Brien Centre for Sustainable Enterprise (DOCSE) and JMSB’s Career Management Services (CMS) have teamed up to offer you the Sustainable Internship Program (SIP). The program is to give undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to gain valuable and related hands-on experience within the domain of sustainable business.

On-going SIP Internship Postings are available on the CMS job-site ConneXions.

YOUR Value

The Sustainable Internship Program provides students with practical working experience in the field of sustainable business. The aim is to supply students with valuable tools and skills that cover the following:
  • A global understanding of sustainability.
  • What sustainability means for an organization and how it is implemented.
  • The components of sustainability and an understanding of their relevance.
  • Bringing together theoretical knowledge from the classroom and the practical experience obtained from working in a related internship.

Interns

Internship applications are open to all students currently enrolled in the JMSB faculty as well as JMSB alumni within 1 year of convocation. Undergraduate intern applicants must have successfully completed a minimum of 24 credits (8 classes). Graduate intern applicants should have successfully completed a minimum of 12 credits (4 classes) or have related previous business experience.

Specifics

Upon completion of an internship, interns will be required to write a short report or present about the internship experience and the knowledge gained in sustainability. Students will also receive a completion certificate once the internship and the report or presentation is completed.

*New internship positions are posted towards the beginning of every semester so check the CMS jobsite regularly and look for those that mention SIP.

We provide the opportunity for you to provide up to 3 three-four-month long terms internships: fall (September to December), winter (February- April) and summer (May-August). Most part-time Internships run from 15-25 hours and full-time internships from 30-40 hours a week during the summer and/or throughout the year.

Student Testimonials

Jacob Inc.

''Over the last 4 weeks, I have been working alongside the Director of Communications and Corporate Social Responsibility, as well as the Public relations advisor and Senior Marketing advisor at JACOB. Shadowing my colleagues has been a crucial element to my overall understanding of CSR. It has educated me on how to market a clothing retailer as socially responsible, which I feel is as important as following through with the initiatives themselves. Being a month into my stay at JACOB as the CSR/ Sustainability intern, I now have good insight as to what to expect on the job and am even more motivated to pursue my interests in Corporate/ Personal Social Responsibility. I fully appreciate the opportunity and would definitely suggest it to my peers!''

"Working with R4 and learning about true sustainability was a very rewarding summer internship. I found it provided a depth of involvement that was both a challenge I could overcome, and a work environment that was fun and comfortable to be in. I feel that this experience will be a great addition to my resume, as well as my professional career path."
