International Universities Converge On the Molson Building For JMUCC

While most undergraduate students at Concordia University will be catching up on their academic workload, preparing for mid-terms or sneaking away for good old dose of southern sunshine, twenty internationally renowned business schools from around the globe will be sending their best and brightest undergraduate students to Montreal to compete in the John Molson Undergraduate Case Competition. The students, driven by their desire to compete and represent their schools will be rewarded with hands-on experience and if all goes well, one of the coveted trophies. The week long competition takes place during reading week from Sunday February 21st to Saturday February 27th at the John Molson School of Business (1450 Guy Street). Members of the public are welcome to attend the case presentations. Click here to view the JMUCC schedule of events.
This year’s competitors which include Singapore Management University, Shantou University, Dublin Institute of Technology, Purdue University and Queen’s University are in for a treat as it will be the first year that this competition is taking part in the John Molson School of Business’s brand new state-of-the-art facilities which opened at the beginning of the academic year. The 2010 edition of the competition is being organized by a team a of five undergraduate students from the John Molson School of Business; Megan Bouchard, Jose Garcia, Matthew Parker Jones, Mariann Rossi, and Andrei Sabau.
The 80 students will put their academic training to the test as they apply their business skills to four live business cases sponsored by local Montreal companies. Each team of four students will have three hours to prepare for each of the first three cases, they will then have 24 hours to prepare for their fourth and final case of the round-robin. The fourth case will challenge the teams’ research abilities as students surf the internet, and leverage other research tools to develop an in-depth solution that they will then present to a panel of judges. Upon completion of the fourth case, the results will be tallied and the winner of each division will advance to the finals on Saturday afternoon and will present their research case strategies to a new panel of judges. The winners of the competition will be announced at the event’s closing Gala on Saturday evening.
