JMSB Wins Gold for the Second Year Running at the 2010 Financial Open

February 9, 2010 – Once again the students of the John Molson School of Business proved their financial and accounting savvy by bringing home the Gold at the 2010 Financial Open (Omnium Financier). This is the third time that JMSB has won the Competition’s top prize since the inter-university competition began in 2006 with the goal of creating a competition for the “brightest and most sophisticated students in Finance and Accounting". Université Laval and HEC Montréal finished in second and third place, respectively.
This year’s edition was hosted by the Desautels Faculty of Management of McGill University and featured 10 business schools from across Eastern Canada. The theme for the competition, A New Look at the Global Economy, was a reflection of the times and demanded that the competitors consider current global financial implications as they analyzed their cases and presented their proposals. As defending champions of the Financial Open, the JMSB delegation worked tirelessly for months in preparation for the competition. All seven JMSB teams delivered strong performances and contributed to the overall victory. JMSB collected five podiums out of the seven academic disciplines. Asked about her experience, delegation member Samantha Kirsh said, "The most rewarding aspect of the whole experience was the feeling of school spirit during the Closing Gala, it was amazing to see how everybody supported each other. The feeling of pride in representing JMSB on the road to gold was simply overwhelming!”
