On Friday, 30 September, the 9th Annual soccer game between the John Molson School of Business (JMSB) faculty and staff versus the John Molson MBA
students took place at the Loyola Athletic complex. The game was the most exciting in the past few years and had to be decided by a penalty shoot-out after a 7:7 score line at the end of the match. The students were the better side during the first half of the game and dominated play, leading 4:2 at half time. Yet despite trailing throughout the entire match, the faculty/staff team managed to equalize on a penalty shot with only a few minutes left after mounting a remarkable comeback. During the ensuing 10 minutes of sudden-death play, both sides had many good scoring opportunities but failed to hit the net or were thwarted by the goal keepers. In the end, the faculty/staff team won the penalty shoot-out 3:2, with the student ruing their missed chances during regular play and the faculty/staff feeling elated by hard work, some good fortune, and 3 saved penalties.
